教授六年級的新州公立學校
六年級是小學及 Stage 3 的最後一年。對家庭而言，這一年的重心是升中：確認所屬的本地中學、考慮其他選擇，以及完成銜接步驟。
升讀七年級
六年級初（通常在第一學期），新州公立小學會向家長派發入讀政府中學七年級的意向表（expression of interest）。每個地址都有一間所屬的本地公立中學，必須取錄居住在其收生範圍內的學生；家庭亦可申請其他學校的學位。希望入讀精英中學的學生於六年級參加精英中學入學測試（Selective High School Placement Test）。中學會在第四學期舉辦迎新日。
六年級的學習
Stage 3 的學習成果會在學年結束時評估。學生承擔更多獨立專題、領袖職務，許多學校還有六年級營或畢業告別活動。在部分地區，小學階段會在中央學校繼續，該類學校在同一校址由幼稚園辦至十二年級。
