教授一年級的新州公立學校
一年級是新州課程中 Stage 1 的第一年，也是幼稚園之後第一個以正式課堂為主的學年。幾乎所有提供幼稚園的學校都提供一年級，因此以下列表基本上是同一批小學、幼兒學校及中央學校。
與幼稚園有何不同
課堂變得更有結構，每天設有閱讀、寫作及數學時段。學生學習獨立閱讀和書寫短篇文章，運用 100 以內的數字，並更深入地接觸各主要學習領域：科學與科技、歷史與地理、創意藝術，以及個人發展與健康。
語音篩查測試
每年第三學期，所有新州公立學校都會為一年級學生進行一年級語音篩查測試（Year 1 Phonics Screening Check），以一對一形式簡短檢視孩子拼讀單詞的能力。這是教學工具，並不公開發布結果，學校會告知家長孩子的表現。
