About the school

Canterbury Vale School for Specific Purposes is located at 24 Wangee Road, Lakemba, and offers intensive specialist support for students from Years 7 to 10 who exhibit challenging and disruptive behaviours, have low self-esteem, and face difficulties adjusting to mainstream educational settings. The school caters to a maximum of 21 students, aiming to provide an educational environment that encourages growth by setting challenging, yet attainable goals.

The school implements an intensive intervention program designed to help students manage their behaviour effectively and reintegrate successfully into mainstream or alternative educational settings. This 12-month program can be extended based on individual case management plans. The emphasis at Canterbury Vale is to provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere where students can access high-quality teaching and learning, thereby enabling them to make informed and positive choices.

For students in Years 9 and 10, Canterbury Vale offers a regular work experience program and follows the Board endorsed School Certificate program. Students are prepared to sit their examinations on site, ensuring that their academic pathways are paved with support tailored to their specific needs. The school's commitment to fostering a sense of community and well-being is reflected in its motto: "Pathway to Success."
