About the school
Dorchester School is a Department of Education and Training, Community Care School situated within the Reiby Juvenile Justice Centre in Campbelltown, specifically catering to students aged between 10 and 21. The school only draws its student body from within Reiby JJC, which primarily serves as a committal centre for youths. With an emphasis on providing a stable and caring environment, Dorchester School implements educational, behavioural, and self-esteem programs designed to enhance each student's successful reintegration into society upon their discharge from the centre.
Educational Approach
The school focuses on individual education and training plans that cater to the needs of each student. Teaching programs are delivered to whole classes, but they are tailored to meet the specific learning requirements of each student. In addition, students have access to various programs offered through Juvenile Justice and Distance Education, further expanding their educational opportunities.
Student Population
Dorchester School primarily serves up to 55 students, with a significant number of Aboriginal students enrolled. Many of the students face challenges such as a history of learning failure, non-school attendance, and behavioural issues, which the school aims to address by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. The school's mission is to help students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn, providing the necessary support for them to thrive in their education and personal growth.
Mission
We help every student to learn, grow and succeed.
