About the school

James Meehan High School is a community-based comprehensive secondary school located in Macquarie Fields, catering to approximately 330 students from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds. The school hosts 29 cultural groups and 27 language backgrounds, with half of the students coming from a language background other than English. Notably, 32% of the student population identifies as Pacific Islander and 14% as Indigenous.

The school is dedicated to fostering successful learners through innovative educational programs designed to promote respect and responsibility. It aims to enhance the academic performance of students from low socio-economic backgrounds by providing high-quality programs in literacy, numeracy, technology, and teaching excellence. Alongside academic support, the school places a strong emphasis on wellbeing and community involvement, particularly with Pacific Islander and Indigenous communities.

A Special Education Unit is available for students with intellectual and emotional disabilities, as well as those on the autism spectrum. James Meehan High School is also focused on creating successful transitions for its senior students, with many engaging in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and TAFE during their schooling, as well as pursuing university offers or entering full-time training and employment after graduation. Community and partnership initiatives have significantly contributed to the rising academic success among its senior cohort.
