About the school
Niland School is a Regional facility that provides educational and behavioural programs for students with emotional and intellectual disabilities. The school develops individual educational programs through a collaborative process that includes students, parents, caregivers, school staff, and relevant support agency personnel. The curriculum focuses on building academic, vocational, physical, social, and creative skills, enabling students to achieve an independent and fulfilling lifestyle.
Core Values
The core values of Niland School—Respect, Safety, and Learning—undergird all aspects of school organisation and interaction. These values foster a positive environment that encourages students to thrive.
Unique Features
One notable feature of the school is its Aboriginal Education Program, which is taught in all classes to support an increasing number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students. This program seeks to enhance cultural awareness and promote a connection to culture for all students. Additionally, community participation at Niland School has been strengthened through increased attendance at assemblies, special functions, events, and various classroom programs.
The school prioritises creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Through explicit teaching, positive behaviour modelling, and evidence-based practices, Niland School aims to empower every student to engage actively with their learning journey and realise their potential. By fostering inclusivity, respect, and a sense of belonging, the school cultivates resilient learners prepared to contribute positively to society.
