About the school

Hebersham Public School (HPS), established in 1972 on Dharug land in Mt Druitt, is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students. With a current enrolment of 580 students, the school has a rich cultural diversity, with 49% of students coming from non-English speaking backgrounds and 10% identifying as Aboriginal. HPS focuses on key areas of literacy, numeracy, and student welfare, underpinned by the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) philosophy which promotes respect, safety, and learning. The community embraces the PBL pride guide: be a learner; be respectful; and be safe, ensuring these principles are instilled in all students through explicit teaching.

The school’s well-established Learning Support Team (LST) ensures tailored assistance is provided, complementing the academic programs such as Accelerated Literacy, QuickSmart, Spelling Mastery, and Connecting Maths. HPS currently operates 22 mainstream classes and three support classes designed for students with autism and emotional disturbances.

As part of its commitment to excellence, Hebersham Public School is included in the Low SES School Communities National Partnerships initiative and is actively involved in district sports, public speaking competitions, and performing arts festivals. The school community is further supported by an active P&C Association, which collaborates in enhancing educational experiences. Looking forward, the NSW Government is investing in a new public preschool co-located with the school, set to open by 2027, further enriching the community's educational landscape.

Mission

Hebersham Public School promotes an inclusive and diverse school community that delivers quality learning and teaching opportunities that are personalised, evidenced based and which build upon future focused pedagogies for students to become literate and numerate, successful, active, and informed citizens.
