Crown Street Public School, located in Sydney's inner city, is a community-minded institution established in 1849. Although enrolments have increased significantly in recent years, the school retains a friendly, community atmosphere. The partnership among students, staff, school families, and the wider community fosters an inclusive learning environment, showcasing strong community spirit. Students access a varied curriculum that promotes a stimulating and supportive setting. Drawn from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, parent involvement is both valued and encouraged. The dedicated staff cater effectively to a broad range of student abilities and needs, thereby nurturing motivated learners. The school focuses on literacy, numeracy, technology, environmental sustainability, and developing leadership skills, resilience, and well-being for all students and staff.
Specialist teachers assist with learning programs, such as Reading Recovery and English as a second language. Continuous assessment of student progress is integral to the teaching approach. Extra-curricular activities include Mandarin, Aboriginal and contemporary dance, Chess, Choir, Band, Debating, and Public Speaking. All students are instructed in Mandarin, with additional classes available for students from Chinese backgrounds. Physical fitness and sports are pivotal in the life of Crown Street’s students. The Learning Support Team attends to individual needs, while the school prides itself on its robust Music program, including bands, string ensembles, and student choirs. An Out of School Hours Care service is also available on-site, ensuring comprehensive support for students and families.
