教授二年級的新州公立學校
二年級是 Stage 1 的最後一年。學生預期在學年結束時能流暢閱讀、書寫簡單而有結構的文章，並自信地運用加法、減法及初步的乘法。在設有幼兒學校的地區，這也是幼兒學校的最後一年。
幼兒學校
新州有少數公立學校是只教授幼稚園至二年級的幼兒學校。這些學校的兒童會在三年級轉到附近的小學，因此該區家長需要查閱三年級列表，了解接收學校。不過，大部分兒童都會在同一間小學完成整個小學階段。
二年級的學習
Stage 1 的學習成果會在二年級結束時評估。學生鞏固拼讀及串字，閱讀較長篇的文章，撰寫記敍文及故事；數學方面則學習兩位數、規律、量度及簡單數據。
