Bankstown Hospital School

Bankstown Hospital School provides education for hospitalised students in Years K to 12 within the Children's Ward of Bankstown Hospital. Serving the south-western suburbs of Sydney, the school caters to students who are hospitalised due to illness, accidents, or medical procedures, with attendance periods ranging from several days to several months.

Educational Approach

The mission of the school is to provide continuity of education for those students and ensure a smooth transition back to their home schools. To achieve this, Bankstown Hospital School collaborates closely with the home schools of long-term students to align educational programs with those of their peers. Instruction occurs both in the classroom and at patients' bedsides when students are unable to attend class due to their medical conditions. Teaching is personalised, taking place in small groups or on a one-on-one basis, and the classroom is multi-aged to accommodate all students from K to 12.

Learning Programs

Teachers at Bankstown Hospital School assist students in accessing remote learning from their home schools, while also planning customised learning activities that consider each student's interests and needs. Morning sessions tend to focus on literacy and numeracy skills, while afternoon sessions include science, technology, creative arts, and wellbeing activities.
