The school also runs a Preschool with an enrolment of 40. With a strong commitment to supporting its community, the school is integrated into the Schools as Community Centre program, focusing on social issues that positively impact student attendance and family harmony.
The school offers seven classes on each campus—Infants and Primary—and includes an Opportunity Class (OC) for gifted and talented children from the Dubbo District, an IM class, and a program in Aboriginal language and culture. Dubbo West Public School benefits from the Priority Schools Program (PSP), which provides additional staffing for technology purposes. In 2016, the school participated in the Early Action for Success (EA4S) program to enhance student learning outcomes.
Beyond academics, Dubbo West Public School boasts a diverse range of extra-curricular activities, including a school band, choir, public speaking, debating, and technology, music, and drama programs. The recent completion of the Cooler Classrooms project has significantly improved the learning environment, aligning with initiatives like the $157.8 million LED Lighting Upgrade Program, which aims to enhance educational facilities across New South Wales public schools.
