About the school
George Bass School opened its doors at the beginning of 2014 as a purpose-built educational facility that caters specifically for students with special needs. Located at 106 Johnston Road, Bass Hill, the school features specialised facilities aimed at providing a safe environment and varied learning experiences for its students.
Educational Programs
The school offers high-quality educational programmes from early years through to the end of high school, implementing both the K-6 curriculum and the K-12 lifeskills curriculum of the New South Wales Board of Studies. All students enrolled at George Bass School have a primary intellectual disability and may also have secondary or multiple disabilities. Each student follows a personalised learning plan developed in collaboration with their parents and carers, ensuring tailored support to meet individual needs.
Learning Environment
Classes are organised by age and tailored to the unique learning needs of each student. Each class is supported by qualified teachers and School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) to manage educational and health care requirements effectively. The school prepares students to work towards completing the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate, emphasising both academic and personal growth throughout their educational journey.
George Bass School is committed to nurturing a supportive community that values respect, curiosity, and teamwork, striving to ensure every child feels valued and inspired to learn.
Mission
We will acknowledge each student's unique identity and encourage a sense of ambition by instilling a love of learning and celebrating their achievements as independent, connected, and creative thinkers to support their successful transition to the world beyond school.
