About the school

Cook School is a School for Specific Purpose (SSP) located in the heart of the Sutherland Shire, established in 2002 and relocated to its current site in 2007. Initially set up to support students in Years Five to Ten with behavioural difficulties, the school expanded its services in 2008 to include two additional classes and an outreach program for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 diagnosed with mental health issues.

Educational Approach

Cook School adopts a sophisticated approach to managing challenging behaviours, incorporating the 'You Can Do It Program.' This program aims to promote resilience, social competencies, and engagement with the curriculum among students. The school focuses on creating tailored Individualised Learning Plans that facilitate the reintegration of students into their local schools, thus ensuring they receive the support required for their personal and academic growth.

Community and Support

The commitment of Cook School extends beyond the classroom to include a strong focus on family engagement. Teachers, along with learning and wellbeing support teams, collaborate with families to co-design educational plans that cater to individual learning styles and needs. The school has developed excellent connections with TAFE and local agencies which specialise in providing assistance with job seeking, reinforcing its commitment to holistic student support. Cook School provides a nurturing environment where students from diverse backgrounds feel safe and included, empowering them to believe, strive, and succeed.

Mission

Cook School is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive community where every student can thrive academically, socially, and personally.
