About the school
Kariong Public School was established in 1988 and currently has an enrolment of 572 students, including 30 Aboriginal students and 73 students with a language background other than English (LBOTE). Situated west of Gosford on the Central Coast Highway, the school is a proud member of the Kariong Mountains Learning Community. It is known for its commitment to providing students with "A View to the Future." The school boasts a mix of experienced staff and early career teachers, fostering a welcoming and friendly environment that prioritises strong partnerships among staff, parents, and students.
Educational Focus
Kariong Public School places significant emphasis on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes while integrating technology into teaching and learning. The school implements Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) across Early Stage 1 and Year 1, and the Targeted Early Numeracy (TEN) program across Early Stage 1 and Stage 1. Furthermore, it is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, establishing strong partnerships with the Aboriginal community and actively engaging with the local Cooinda AECG.
Additional Support and Programs
The school has received additional School Based Allocation Resource (SBAR) funding to support Aboriginal and EAL/D students, as well as low-level adjustments for students with disabilities. In 2016, Kariong Public School was selected for the state-wide Bump it Up strategy to enhance student performance in reading and numeracy.
Extracurricular Activities
Kariong Public School offers a variety of educational and extracurricular experiences, including PSSA teams, dance, choir, musical instruments, writing, art, public speaking, and competitions in Digital Technologies, Science, English, and Mathematics. This diverse range of programs supports the holistic development of each student and encourages community engagement.
