Oak Flats Public School highlights quality relationships, outstanding teaching and learning, and high expectations for students from Preschool to Year 6. The school’s banner statement, 'focusing on children reaching for excellence in a caring learning environment', serves as the foundation for all activities. Students are encouraged to strive for personal bests in academic and personal pursuits. Experienced staff are committed to developing engaged lifelong learners, and the School Plan prioritises excellence in literacy and numeracy, engaging all students, incorporating the National Curriculum, fostering leadership, and enhancing Aboriginal Education.
The school offers robust literacy and numeracy programs, supported by specialists including a Reading Recovery teacher. Student leadership and effective discipline programmes are integral to the school culture. A Community Language Program allows students to learn the German language and culture, enriching their educational experience.
Extra-curricular activities include public speaking, choir, drumming, recorder ensemble, the Premier’s Reading and Spelling Challenges, and dance. The Kindergarten Orientation Program facilitates seamless transition for new students, with assessments made using the Best Start Program to inform teaching strategies.
The preschool at Oak Flats is recognised as Exceeding National Standards and caters to around 40 families, employing the Early Learning Framework successfully. Well-resourced facilities including a modern computer lab and innovative technologies support optimal learning environments.
