About the school
Woonona East Public School serves a coastal suburban community north of Wollongong and caters for 220 students. The school promotes its three core values: respect, responsibility, and resilience, fostering a secure environment where all children can learn with confidence while supporting additional needs and developing students' talents. With an experienced teaching staff engaged in ongoing professional learning, the school offers a balanced and engaging curriculum that emphasises sound literacy and numeracy skills alongside health and well-being programs. Students have opportunities to participate in creative and performing arts through programs such as the school band, choir, and public speaking.
The school boasts a strong sporting tradition and implements initiatives in fitness and sport, ensuring it remains a health-promoting environment. Furthermore, technology skills are developed through its modern computer laboratory and various technology integration programs. Recent enhancements, including a new hall and improved facilities, create an attractive and functional environment for learning.
Woonona East Public School is supported by an enthusiastic parent body via its Parents and Citizens Association and is a proud member of the Woonona Community of Schools and the Illawarra Visible Learning Community. With a student population comprising 33 Aboriginal students and 20 who speak English as an additional language, the school is committed to inclusive education, working closely with the Northern Illawarra Aboriginal Education Consultative Group to ensure culturally responsive educational programs.
