Yagoona Public School
Yagoona Public School - Embracing potential to empower learning.
About the school
Yagoona Public School is a centre for lifelong learning located in a diverse community. With an enrolment of 535 students across 21 mainstream classes, the school also features a Support Education Unit (SEU) that serves students with various emotional and intellectual needs. This unit is staffed by an Assistant Principal, five teachers, and five School Learning Support Officers. Approximately 94% of students come from non-English speaking backgrounds, with community language classes available in Arabic, Vietnamese, Macedonian, and Chinese. The school promotes positive behaviour through the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program and employs clear strategies to support students in making appropriate choices both in and out of the classroom.
The school's facilities include a library with networked ICT workstations and interactive whiteboards, supporting a modern learning environment. Transition programs prepare students for their educational journey, including Kindy-Start for kindergarten and a high school transition initiative that involves Year 6 students participating in a high school-style timetable.
Extracurricular activities play a significant role at Yagoona Public School. Students can join a variety of sporting teams, including Oztag, AFL, netball, and soccer. They also have opportunities in creative arts with dance groups, a choir, public speaking, debating, and drama. The Parent & Citizen Association actively engages in fundraising and community-building activities, further enriching the school’s spirit and connections. Additionally, the school’s Community Hub provides resources and support programs for families, strengthening the bond between the school and the community.
Mission
At Yagoona Public School we believe that every child can and will succeed within a school community that embeds high expectations. We foster the development of students with a focus on wellbeing and academic growth. Our vision is to enable shared educational outcomes for learning with strong connections between home and school.
