About the school
Russell Lea Public School is located just 6km from the Sydney CBD, near the upper reaches of Sydney Harbour, resting on the traditional land of the Wangal clan of the Eora Nation. The school operates as a Kindergarten to Year 6 institution and has high expectations for educational success and community involvement. It transitioned to a K-6 format in 2019, coinciding with the opening of completely rebuilt facilities that can accommodate up to 600 students. As of now, the school serves 413 students, providing a space conducive to a rich, future-focused curriculum.
The school is well-regarded in the local community for its quality literacy and numeracy programs, as well as for fostering positive wellbeing outcomes. With an emphasis on Visible Learning and Positive Psychology, most students achieve results in the top two bands of NAPLAN, with average scores significantly above the state average. Staff members are dedicated to professional development, engaging in practices such as Teaching Sprints and Walkthrus to improve teaching effectiveness.
Russell Lea Public School places a strong emphasis on collaboration with parents, who are key advocates for the school and greatly enhance its educational offerings. The school community expects best educational practices, and staff work diligently to build an understanding of these standards among teachers and students alike. Continuous improvement is a goal, with a focus on instructional coaching and the implementation of new curricula in English and Mathematics.
