About the school

Coffs Harbour Learning Centre (CHLC) is a public School for Specific Purpose (SSP) established in 2007, catering to secondary students from Year 7 to Year 10 who require intensive behavioural and educational support due to complex and challenging behaviours. Located in Boambee, approximately 10 km south of Coffs Harbour, the school prides itself on creating an inclusive environment that accommodates up to 21 students. The school implements responsive programs designed to engage students and improve their academic and behavioural outcomes.

Individual Learning Plans

Each student at CHLC has an individual learning and wellbeing plan tailored to their unique needs. The school's approach focuses on nurturing positive relationships within a safe environment, enabling students to develop the skills and confidence necessary for success. The curriculum includes building skills in communication, independence, life skills, and social skills, and teachers work closely with families to create personalised plans that support each student’s educational journey.

Classroom Structure and Environment

CHLC operates four classes, each supporting a maximum of seven students, allowing for tailored educational experiences that address individual dispositions. Class structures may be adjusted throughout the year based on student needs. The facilities are designed to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere where students are encouraged to learn in ways that suit them best, fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging.

Transition Support

The school also emphasises preparing students for a seamless transition back to mainstream education, further education at TAFE, or entry into the workforce. With a dedicated team of skilled educators and support staff, CHLC is committed to empowering its students to achieve their full potential.
