About the school

Mount Kembla Public School, established in 1859, is situated in the village of Mount Kembla. The school retains the historic sandstone schoolhouse alongside the former Principal's residence, nestled in a scenic bushland setting that offers views over the valley. This school prides itself on fostering a caring atmosphere where each child is respected as an individual and valued as part of the school community. The curriculum at Mount Kembla focuses on developing essential skills and values, while also providing opportunities for extension and variety.

The school boasts professional and experienced staff dedicated to the well-being and education of their students, embodying the philosophy that 'every student is everybody's responsibility'. Being a smaller school allows for more tailored support for individual student needs, with comprehensive assessment and reporting. Parents and the local community are actively encouraged to engage in school activities, supported by a welcoming and active Parent & Citizen (P&C) association.

Student well-being is a priority, with a strong emphasis on respect, safety, and learning reinforced through school rules. Additionally, the school has integrated technology into the learning environment, utilising interactive whiteboards in every classroom and engaging in programs such as coding since 2017 and a new STEM robotics initiative starting in 2019. The close-knit village atmosphere of Mount Kembla is reflected in the collaborative efforts of staff and students, all working towards positive educational outcomes.
