About the school
Charlestown South Public School is committed to creating a warm and caring environment that nurtures students towards a love of learning. The school seeks to achieve this through relevant, negotiated curriculum experiences delivered in exciting, imaginative, vibrant, and challenging ways. The school's signature pedagogy is Explicit Instruction, and every teacher collaborates closely with leading educationalist John Fleming from Haileybury College, Australia's top-performing primary school. With high educational expectations, Charlestown South Public School believes that every child can be a high achiever, as evidenced by recent NAPLAN results showing 86% of Year 3 students in the top two bands for Reading and 83% for Numeracy.
The school promotes individual differences while fostering harmony and mutual respect, ensuring all students feel safe and enjoy success and recognition. With just over 230 students, the intimate atmosphere allows every teacher and student to know each other by name, creating a sense of worth and value. Every staff member focuses on caring for and valuing each child.
Charlestown South Public School inspires lifelong learners and empowers students to become innovative, creative, intellectually curious, and socially responsible citizens, prepared for the demands of the 21st century. The comprehensive range of learning opportunities includes award-winning Concert Band and Choirs, Dance Groups, Chess and Debating Clubs, and various cultural events throughout the year. The school also offers mixed Stage 3 classes that facilitate hands-on STEM experiences through inquiry-based learning.
