About the school
Menindee Central School is a community school that provides a caring and stimulating environment for its students. Located in Menindee, a remote area of far west NSW, the school serves approximately 100 students, with 85% identifying as Aboriginal. Menindee Central School caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and offers a unique Access Program that links with central schools in Ivanhoe and Wilcannia for Years 11 and 12. The school has a strong focus on enhancing student welfare, community involvement, and the delivery of a culturally sensitive curriculum, developed in collaboration with Dr Bob Morgan of the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group.
Educational Focus
The school is committed to improving basic outcomes in literacy, numeracy, attendance, and retention rates. Innovative programs engage students while Aboriginal community members are employed to help foster a supportive learning environment. Students from Year 10 to Year 12 have access to traineeships, VET courses, and facilities at the Menindee Enterprise and Trade Training Centre. The school implements the Quality Teacher Framework, ensuring regular support from qualified educators like Associate Professor James Ladwig.
