教授六年级的新州公立学校
六年级是小学及 Stage 3 的最后一年。对家庭而言，这一年的重心是升学：确认所属的本地中学、考虑其他选择，以及完成衔接步骤。
升读七年级
六年级初（通常在第一学期），新州公立小学会向家长派发入读政府中学七年级的意向表（expression of interest）。每个地址都有一所所属的本地公立中学，必须录取居住在其招生范围内的学生；家庭也可申请其他学校的学位。希望入读精英中学的学生于六年级参加精英中学入学测试（Selective High School Placement Test）。中学会在第四学期举办迎新日。
六年级的学习
Stage 3 的学习成果会在学年结束时评估。学生承担更多独立课题、领袖职务，许多学校还有六年级营或毕业告别活动。在部分地区，小学阶段会在中央学校继续，该类学校在同一校址从幼儿园办到十二年级。
