Great Lakes College Forster Campus
Respect, Responsibility & Personal Best
About the school
Great Lakes College Forster Campus is one of three campuses within the college, catering to approximately 680 students from Year 7 to Year 10. The school embraces a community-oriented approach, with values of respect, responsibility, cooperation, and fairness at its core. These values guide all aspects of school life and are reinforced through a Regular Assessment Program (RAP) that provides three-weekly feedback to parents regarding student progress. Approximately 8% of the student population identifies as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
The curriculum at the college is diverse, offering Stage 5 VET courses alongside a mix of academic and performing arts subjects. Notable programs include drama, public speaking, debating, and music, as well as bi-annual college musicals that showcase student creativity. The school also provides a Special Education unit for students with various needs, integrating many special needs students into mainstream classes.
Great Lakes College Forster Campus boasts strong athletic programs, particularly in volleyball, swimming, canoeing, and athletics. Several special programs are also available, including the Chill Out Breakfast Program, which offers free nutritious breakfasts twice a week, and peer tutoring where Year 10 students assist peers with reading difficulties. Additionally, the school has received recognition for excellence in education with an Education Week Award. Through initiatives funded by the Norta Norta Program and the Schools in Partnership Program, the school aims to support every student's education regardless of their background.
