Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre

Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre is located 28km north of Lismore, adjacent to the Nightcap National Park and the Whian Whian State Forest on the NSW North Coast. The centre plays a vital role in supporting the teaching of environmental education across various educational institutions, particularly in primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, as well as in governmental agencies and community groups.

Curriculum Opportunities

Dorroughby provides a range of unique curriculum opportunities that include the integration of fieldwork in diverse natural and built environments. Students engage in studies related to rainforests and coastal zones, aligning with senior secondary syllabuses in geography, science, human society and its environment (HSIE), and agriculture. Additionally, the centre fosters experiences in team building, self-esteem development, and expedition skills.

Educational Programs

Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre offers comprehensive programs for students from Kindergarten through Year 12. These include curriculum-based incursions and excursions that are tailored to enhance learning outcomes. The programs emphasise hands-on learning experiences that connect students to the local environment and incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, promoting cultural awareness and environmental stewardship.
