Sanctuary Point Public School
'This our school, let it be a place where the rights of others are understood and respected. Let us be peaceful with in our dealings with others and let it help us to lead happy lives.'
About the school
Sanctuary Point Public School is situated on the shores of St Georges Basin within the Bay and Basin Learning Community. Serving a low socio-economic area, the school has secured significant funding over the past four years aimed at enhancing the social, emotional, and academic achievements of its more than 520 students, including those in five special support classes and over 100 Aboriginal students. In 2014, the school community initiated an ambitious improvement plan to build on previous accomplishments. The implementation of three key priorities commenced in 2015: curriculum innovation incorporating 21st Century Pedagogies, the enhancement of student and staff wellbeing, and increased community engagement.
The school strives to instil a culture of success among its students, expecting them to attend every day unless genuinely unwell, engage actively in their learning, and embrace challenges effectively. It fosters a positive, caring, and inclusive environment that supports student engagement and aims for high literacy and numeracy levels, while also providing diverse curriculum experiences and leveraging modern technology. Partnerships with parents and community are emphasised to promote independence, resilience, and lifelong learning.
Furthermore, the school is dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding and respect for local Aboriginal culture, ensuring that Aboriginal students achieve academic success on par with their non-Aboriginal peers. Through these efforts, Sanctuary Point Public School continues to create a nurturing and stimulating environment focused on the holistic development of all its students.
