About the school
Millfield Public School is a school situated in a picturesque rural setting 12 kilometres south west of Cessnock. The school delivers quality academic, social, and extra-curricular programs that develop students to reach their full potential and is proud to have maintained this commitment to the community over its rich and increasing 150-year history.

The school currently consists of four staged-based classes, with enrolments showing an upward trend, moving from 55 to 80 students over the last five years. In 2019, the student cohort reached 80, comprising 51% boys and 49% girls, with 15% of students identifying as Aboriginal.
Educational Focus
Millfield Public School focuses on quality literacy and numeracy programs provided through differentiation and research-driven teaching methodologies. This includes targeted programs such as L3, TEN, and Project-Based Learning. Staff and students work to model the school’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations of respect, responsibility, and safety on a daily basis, underpinning the importance of home-school partnerships in improving student learning outcomes.
Community Engagement
The Parents and Citizens’ Association plays an active role in the school, organising social events and fundraising initiatives, while also operating the school canteen. Communication with the community is maintained through fortnightly newsletters and assemblies, along with a robust social media presence.
Assessment and Collaboration
The school utilises wholistic assessment measures, such as NAPLAN, showing steady improvement in literacy and numeracy. As part of the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools, Millfield works collaboratively with neighbouring schools to provide positive outcomes for all students.
Mission
Millfield Public School's vision is to inspire the happy and resilient thinkers of tomorrow, today and every day.
