About the school
Kearsley Public School is a small, comprehensive co-educational primary school located 5 kilometres south of Cessnock in the Hunter Valley, serving around 140 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school's mission is to foster active and successful participation in the community by providing a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. To achieve this, Kearsley Public School implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program, emphasising respect, responsibility, and learning.
The school boasts quality teaching and a curriculum that focuses on English and Mathematics, enabling students to excel in various competitions, including mathematics and writing. Students are encouraged to engage in co-curricular activities such as the Newcastle Starstruck performance, debating, and sports, including netball and basketball. An extensive Kindergarten orientation program is in place to ensure smooth transitions for new students.
In recognising the diversity within the community, Kearsley Public School values the perspectives and cultural backgrounds of all families. The Kuluwayn Aboriginal Education Team has been formed to enhance the cultural education of ATSI students, supported by the local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). The school ensures that safety and quality learning are priorities, fostering harmony and personal well-being. With well-kept facilities and landscaped play areas, Kearsley Public School promotes a positive atmosphere conducive to learning.
