教授九年級的新州公立中學
九年級是 Stage 5 的開始，即通往學校成就紀錄（RoSA）的兩年。這是學生首次修讀自選選修科的一年，也是最後一次參加 NAPLAN 的一年。
選修科
除必修科目外，九年級學生修讀八年級末所選的選修課程。選修科分為 100 小時或 200 小時課程，範圍視乎學校而定；專長中學通常在其專長領域提供更深入的選擇。Stage 5 課程所得的等級會記錄在**學校成就紀錄（RoSA）**上，供未完成 HSC 便離校的學生使用。
九年級的學習
學生於 3 月最後一次參加 NAPLAN。數學一般按不同程度分途徑教授，科學及歷史更着重分析，許多學校亦開始生涯教育及就業準備活動。
