教授二年级的新州公立学校
二年级是 Stage 1 的最后一年。学生预期在学年结束时能流畅阅读、书写简单而有结构的文章，并自信地运用加法、减法及初步的乘法。在设有幼儿学校的地区，这也是幼儿学校的最后一年。
幼儿学校
新州有少数公立学校是只教授幼儿园至二年级的幼儿学校。这些学校的儿童会在三年级转到附近的小学，因此该区家长需要查阅三年级列表，了解接收学校。不过，大部分儿童都会在同一所小学完成整个小学阶段。
二年级的学习
Stage 1 的学习成果会在二年级结束时评估。学生巩固拼读及拼写，阅读较长篇的文章，撰写记叙文及故事；数学方面则学习两位数、规律、测量及简单数据。
