教授一年级的新州公立学校
一年级是新州课程中 Stage 1 的第一年，也是幼儿园之后第一个以正式课堂为主的学年。几乎所有提供幼儿园的学校都提供一年级，因此以下列表基本上是同一批小学、幼儿学校及中央学校。
与幼儿园有何不同
课堂变得更有结构，每天设有阅读、写作及数学时段。学生学习独立阅读和书写短篇文章，运用 100 以内的数字，并更深入地接触各主要学习领域：科学与技术、历史与地理、创意艺术，以及个人发展与健康。
语音筛查测试
每年第三学期，所有新州公立学校都会为一年级学生进行一年级语音筛查测试（Year 1 Phonics Screening Check），以一对一形式简短检视孩子拼读单词的能力。这是教学工具，并不公开发布结果，学校会告知家长孩子的表现。
