Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre

Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre offers fieldwork experiences for students from Kindergarten to Year 12, providing essential support for teachers in Environmental Education and Education for Sustainability. Located 18 km from Armidale in the New England region, the centre serves a vast area in northern NSW, from the upper Hunter to the Queensland border. Established in 1976 on the site of a former small school, it features excellent accommodation facilities for day visits or extended stays.

Programs and Learning Opportunities

With its proximity to multiple national parks, including Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and New England National Park, Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre immerses students in both natural and cultural (Aboriginal and European) environments. The centre’s programs are tailored for different educational levels, linking directly with the curriculum to enhance student learning through active and engaging experiences outdoors. Programs are designed to promote connections with nature and include pre- and post-visit activities to extend learning beyond the classroom.

Teacher Support

The centre also prioritises teacher engagement, offering workshops for professional development along with resources aimed at lesson planning and curriculum integration. Spaces are provided for staff meetings and student workshops, enhancing collaborative learning.
