About the school
G S Kidd Memorial School caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who are assessed as functioning in the moderate to severe range of intellectual disability. The school provides the NSW Board of Studies K-12 Curriculum, emphasising quality teaching and learning in an environment where the dignity and self-worth of each student are paramount. The school employs a unique rotational teaching model that enhances access and participation, maximising the expertise of its dedicated staff. Collaboration among supportive parents, therapists, school personnel, and volunteers significantly improves outcomes for all students.
The school designs individual learning programs tailored to student needs, which are then generalised into community-based learning contexts. Integration programs facilitate opportunities for students to practice social, communication, and relevant curriculum skills alongside their peers from neighbouring schools. Local students also volunteer, providing invaluable one-on-one support in both classroom and playground settings.
As part of its commitment to student health, G S Kidd Memorial School offers diverse PDHPE programs, including bike riding, hydrotherapy, and swimming, alongside access to local sporting facilities through the PCYC. The school's Active After School program further promotes inclusive sporting activities. A productive vegetable garden supports the Living Skills program, allowing students to engage in garden-to-table lessons. Well-planned excursions enhance both curriculum learning and practical safe living skills. The school also provides a successful transition to work programs for secondary students, supported by local community organisations.
Mission
At G.S. Kidd Memorial School, every student’s learning journey is personalised. We use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and evidence-based practices to ensure every learner can communicate, connect, and achieve success in their own way.
