About the school

The Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre is situated in a remnant urban bushland reserve adjacent to the Lane Cove and Parramatta Rivers, near the historical areas of Gladesville, Hunters Hill, and Ryde. The centre provides engaging programs designed to support schools and local communities in environmental and sustainability education. Each year, the centre serves over 9,000 students, offering hands-on educational experiences in both natural settings and urban environments.

Programs Offered

The centre delivers a variety of curriculum-aligned school excursions and incursions for students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. These programs focus on key areas such as Science, Geography, and fieldwork skills, allowing students to engage with local ecosystems and develop critical inquiry skills. In particular, primary excursions cover topics across various subjects including HSIE, History, Creative Arts, and English.

Additionally, the centre offers enrichment programs for high potential and gifted education students, encouraging exploration in creative ways. Secondary excursions provide opportunities for environmental investigations and data collection, supporting students in Years 7–12.

Teacher Support

Field of Mars EEC also prioritises professional development for teachers, offering workshops and resources that enhance curriculum-based outdoor learning. This commitment aims to ensure that all students, particularly those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, have the chance to achieve their educational potential through environmental education.

Mission

Field of Mars EEC in East Ryde, Sydney provides curriculum-aligned school excursions and incursions for NSW primary and secondary schools (Early Stage 1–Stage 6). Students build Science, Geography and fieldwork skills through hands-on environmental education programs in natural and urban environments.
