About the school
Jugiong Public School is situated in the village of Jugiong along the Murrumbidgee River, nestled between Yass and Gundagai. As a small, isolated rural school in the Cootamundra Principal's Network, it serves students from the surrounding rural areas. The school operates two multi-stage classes, one for Kindergarten to Year 2 and another for Years 3 to 6, providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Educational Approach
The school is dedicated to fostering a dynamic learning culture, implementing the HOW2Learn strategy that enhances students’ learning capacities by teaching critical learning habits and dispositions. Project Based Learning is a central component of the curriculum, allowing students to engage with real-world problems and acquire deeper knowledge through hands-on exploration.
Cultural Integration
Jugiong Public School is part of the Murrumboola Learning Community (MLC) and participates in the Yalbinyagirri - Learning for the Future Project. This initiative aims to embed Wiradjuri history and culture into the curriculum, with students participating in various culturally enriching programs. The creation of a traditional Wiradjuri garden has been funded by an Eco Schools Grant, further enhancing the students' learning experiences.
Extracurricular Activities
The school offers diverse extracurricular opportunities, including a music program where students learn marimbas, ukulele, guitar, and keyboard. Additionally, participation in the Sporting Schools Program introduces students to a variety of sports.
