Kootingal Public School
Caring, Learning and Achieving Together
About the school
Kootingal Public School is located in the Cockburn Valley, approximately 20 kilometres north of Tamworth, and caters to around 200 students. The school boasts a warm, family-like atmosphere typical of smaller rural schools, while providing the extensive resources of a larger institution. Approximately 15% of its students identify as Aboriginal, and the school actively collaborates with the local community to create an inclusive learning environment. The well-maintained grounds and vibrant classrooms reflect the pride of both staff and students.
The experienced teaching staff facilitate a diverse range of academic, cultural, and sporting activities designed to challenge and inspire students to achieve their potential. Through a values program, the school fosters positive relationships and emphasizes respect, tolerance, care, and consideration among students and staff. Recognition of effort is encouraged via a structured levels system.
Kootingal Public School has gained accolades for its environmental education programs and was awarded for 'Excellence in School/Community Partnerships' at a regional level. The school also has a notable history of sporting success, previously being a finalist in regional awards for 'Excellence in Sports Education.' Student leadership is nurtured through a proactive Student Representative Council and Peer Support Leaders, who guide younger students through initiatives like the 'You Can Do It Program.' In addition, the school supports students’ talents in the performing arts through events such as regular assemblies and bi-annual concerts.
The primary focus remains on improving Literacy and Numeracy outcomes, with specific support provided to students needing additional help, enhancing the overall educational experience. Visitors often commend the positive spirit within the school, particularly noting the good behaviour and manners of the students, which are reinforced through the school's uniform policy.
