About the school
Nyngan High School is a comprehensive coeducational secondary school situated in a remote rural location, accommodating approximately 180 students, with 25% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island descent. The school draws students from four partner schools: Nyngan Public School, Hermidale Public School, Girilambone Public School, and St Joseph's Primary School, with students travelling up to 75 kilometres daily to attend.
The educational staff, many of whom have three or fewer years of teaching experience, are supported by various funding initiatives, including the PSFP and CAP funding. A notable initiative is the Middle School programme where Year 6 students from partner schools attend Nyngan High one day a week in Terms 2, 3, and 4 to receive specialised instruction in English, Science, Creative Arts, and Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) areas.
Since 2009, the school has incorporated a full VET day, ensuring that nearly all Stage 6 students complete at least one Vocational Education and Training (VET) course, with many Stage 5 students also engaging in VET subjects. The school facilitates sport integration for students in Years 7 to 10 and provides skills-based activities in Physical Education.
Located at 19-37 Cobar Street, Nyngan, the school is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Its commitment to education ensures that every student is empowered to learn and succeed academically and personally, setting high expectations for growth both in and out of the classroom.
