教授九年级的新州公立中学
九年级是 Stage 5 的开始，即通往学校成就记录（RoSA）的两年。这是学生首次修读自选选修科的一年，也是最后一次参加 NAPLAN 的一年。
选修科
除必修科目外，九年级学生修读八年级末所选的选修课程。选修科分为 100 小时或 200 小时课程，范围视学校而定；特色中学通常在其特色领域提供更深入的选择。Stage 5 课程所得的等级会记录在**学校成就记录（RoSA）**上，供未完成 HSC 便离校的学生使用。
九年级的学习
学生于 3 月最后一次参加 NAPLAN。数学一般按不同程度分路径教授，科学及历史更注重分析，许多学校也开始生涯教育及就业准备活动。
