Illawarra Environmental Education Centre

Illawarra Environmental Education Centre is situated at Killalea State Park, 90 km south of Sydney, nestled between Shellharbour and Kiama. The Centre offers educational excursions for students from Kindergarten to Year 12, featuring well-regarded programs in Biology, Geography, HSIE for K to 6, and Science and Technology for K to 6. In addition to these excursions, the Centre conducts environmental workshops in schools, develops teaching resources, and provides training and development courses for educators. The Centre collaborates with various organisations to promote environmental education in public schools.

The facilities at the Centre include a spacious discovery classroom, an environmental reference library, and options for overnight accommodation in tents or a bunkhouse, allowing for immersive learning experiences. The natural heritage of Killalea State Park includes subtropical and littoral rainforest, mangroves, river estuaries, lagoons, sandy beaches, rocky shores, and open grassland, enriched by the diverse ecosystems that students can explore. The Centre also offers support for schools in planning visits tailored to their students’ needs, providing essential pre- and post-learning resources, excursion materials, and sample assessments to accommodate various learning stages and preferences.
