About the school
Bourke Public School is located 380km North-West of Dubbo and was established in 1975. It is a part of the Connected Communities group of schools, aimed at enhancing educational outcomes in geographically isolated communities. With an enrolment of 226 students, a significant 81% identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, while less than 1% of students are classified as English as a Second Language (ESL). The school's Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) is noted to be 164.
The dedicated team of 55 staff members at Bourke Public School is passionate about fostering a supportive and innovative educational environment. They focus on literacy, numeracy, and technology, preparing students for the demands of the 21st century. The school strives to promote a holistic approach to education by encouraging a healthy lifestyle through various sports and hands-on kitchen and garden lessons.
Bourke Public School actively works to improve attendance by implementing innovative welfare programs and strengthening community partnerships, ensuring that every student has equal access to quality education. Parents and community members are engaged through the Parents and Citizens committee (P&C) and the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), which play pivotal roles in fundraising and consultation processes aimed at enhancing the school’s offerings.
Furthermore, construction is underway for the Bourke Public School Early Years Transition Centre, set to open in Term 1 of 2027, to advance early childhood education within the community.
