About the school
Finley High School has been a cornerstone of educational excellence in the rural regions of Berrigan, Finley, Jerilderie, and Tocumwal for over fifty years. With a strong tradition in academics, the school consistently achieves impressive HSC results and excels in sports, agriculture, public speaking, and debating. Its vision is to cultivate responsible and active citizens, equipped to contribute meaningfully to society. This vision is realised through three strategic directions: Wellbeing, Learning, and Collaborative Teaching. The school is committed to innovative and evidence-based teaching practices that foster a culture of learning valued by students, educators, parents, and the broader community.
Finley High School places a high priority on the overall wellbeing of its students, providing support that addresses their academic, physical, emotional, and social needs. Collaborative efforts with community stakeholders ensure optimal outcomes for all learners. The school is well-resourced, featuring a trade training centre for hospitality, advanced technology facilities, and a gym. An active Student Representative Council and other student-led groups work towards amplifying the student voice and enhancing social outcomes. Programs such as the IXL for senior students promote independent learning, while Positive Behaviour for Learning emphasises respect and responsibility. The school also boasts a dedicated P&C group that collaborates with the principal to enhance facilities and opportunities. Moreover, the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal students and their families.
The school’s motto is "Wisdom is Strength."
