About the school

Ballina Public School has been a cornerstone of education in the region since 1861, catering to 247 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Nestled in a picturesque semi-rural coastal area, the school benefits from its proximity to the Richmond River and Pacific Ocean, providing unique curricular enhancement opportunities. The core values of the school revolve around fostering success for all children, recognising individual differences, and celebrating academic, social, sporting, and cultural achievements on a weekly basis.

The school has a diverse student body, with 31% identifying as Aboriginal and 2% speaking English as a second language. To better support student learning, the staff includes specialist teachers in areas such as Reading Recovery, Learning Assistance, Special Education, and more, along with School Learning Support Officers in each classroom.

The school's first-class facilities feature interactive whiteboards, classroom sound fields, and video conferencing capabilities, instrumental in enhancing the learning experience. Students in Year 3 and above have the opportunity to learn musical instruments and participate in the Concert Band, which performs at various local events.

Ballina Public School utilises the Positive Behaviour for Learning system to encourage responsibility, respect, and pride among students, underlined by three core rules: Be Safe, Be Fair, Be a Learner. Engagement with parents is a priority, as the school acknowledges their crucial role in education. This partnership helps in providing a supportive environment that champions children's learning and development, ultimately fostering a welcoming community.

Mission

Ballina Public School welcomes all students from all backgrounds. We help every child feel safe, included and ready to learn from their very first day. Our teachers and learning and wellbeing support teams work with our families. We co-design plans that help students learn in the way that works best for them.
