About the school
Pilliga Public School is a unique educational facility located on the North West corner of the Pilliga Forest, approximately 100 kilometres west of Narrabri and east of Walgett. As a Kindergarten to Year 6 school, it proudly serves a small but vibrant community, with 16 students enrolled in 2015, all identifying as Indigenous. The school draws its students from the local township and surrounding properties, aided by a dedicated bus run for easier access.
The school plays a vital role in the community by contributing to events like the town's ANZAC service, NAIDOC week celebrations, and local playgroup activities. With a strong focus on the early years, Pilliga Public School benefits from the Early Action for Success (EA4S) funding, which aims to enhance student performance in the K-2 age group through targeted professional development for staff, based on Best Start and PLAN data.
The school's community is characterised by strong support networks, as most families are involved in the local agricultural sector, working primarily in cattle and cropping. This interconnectedness fosters a nurturing environment where students exhibit an enthusiastic approach to learning, supported by committed staff focused on their long-term development. Recent initiatives, such as the completion of the Cooler Classrooms project, have further improved the learning environment, ensuring that students thrive in a comfortable and efficient space.
